The Long Road (book 1 in The Long Road series)

After a long history of abusive boyfriends, Kyle finally thinks he’s met “Mr Right” in FBI Agent Jay, until 5 years into their relationship, Kyle comes home to find Jay with another man. His world is shattered.

But Jay has never stopped loving Kyle and his adultery is not all that it seems. Afraid of his homophobic boss, Jay had never been open about his sexuality and has kept his relationship with Kyle a secret from his colleagues. But somehow someone discovers his secret and threatens to reveal all to the FBI. In desperation Jay agrees to spend a night with his blackmailer, only to be discovered by Kyle.

Jay’s torment is worsened when his blackmailer kidnaps him, torturing and raping him, then leaving him for dead. Unsatisfied with Jay’s response to the attack, the rapist turns his attention to Kyle, kidnapping him and repeating the same acts.

In order to save Kyle, Jay has to confront his own closeted sexuality and overcome the prejudices around him.

He does this and manages to save his boyfriend, but Kyle’s attack is much more severe. He struggles with intimacy and overcoming the assault, the trust, and continuing a relationship with Jay. Through patience, respect and love however both men finally re-establish their relationship.
